Dr. Emily Silverman is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at UCSF and creator/host of The Nocturnists, a medical storytelling live show and podcast where healthcare workers share stories of joy, sorrow, and self-discovery. Since 2016, The Nocturnists has produced over a dozen live shows in the Bay Area and New York City, three seasons of its podcast, and two special audio diary series called “Stories from a Pandemic,” which will be archived as a historical document at the U.S. Library of Congress, and “Black Voices in Healthcare,” which was honoured by the Webby awards in 2020. In addition to running The Nocturnists, Dr. Silverman has published writing in The New York Times, The Virginia Quarterly Review, McSweeney’s, JAMA, and CHEST. She lives in San Francisco with her husband, some musical instruments, and many plants.
